.XXX domain registration requirements

The .XXX domain extension was created for the global adult entertainment industry. It is intended to provide trusted domain names for adult-themed sites and to encourage safe, responsible behavior online.

.XXX domain names can be registered by individuals, businesses, entities, and organizations that:

- provide online, sexually-oriented adult entertainment ("Online Adult Entertainment") intended for consenting adults or for other community members ("Providers");

- represent Providers ("Representatives"); or

- provide products or services to Providers and Representatives ("Service Providers").

You will be asked to enter the ICM Registry Member ID (token) as an extended attribute during domain registration.

Though Member ID is optional, the domain name will not resolve without it. Member ID can be also added for your domain later in the Domain Contacts section.

Member ID is issued per an account with the ICM Registry, and registrants may use the same ID for all their .XXX domains.

At first, a Member ID can be obtained from the ICM Registry once it sends an introductory email to complete the Membership Application. The email will be sent to the registrant email address associated with the first .XXX domain you register.

You may also submit a form on the ICM website to obtain your Member ID.

TIP: You may also fill in extended attributes in advance or after domain registration so that they are used for all your future registrations. Please refer to the "What are a domain's extended attributes?"  article to know how.

Important Notes

  • .XXX is a sponsored domain extension with special registry requirements.
  • An ICM Registry Member ID may be required for the domain to resolve.
  • Without a valid Member ID, the domain may remain registered but non-resolving.
  • Brand protection registrations may remain non-functional.
  • All .XXX registrations must comply with registry rules and applicable laws.
